Project Name: BRT Pre-Feasibility Study in Semarang |
Duration
December 2018 to August 2019 |
Client
GOPA Infra GmbH for GIZ |
Project Features
Many Indonesian cities including nearly all of the provincial capitals have some form of ‘BRT-lite’ systems operating using high-floor buses and stations and implemented around a decade ago (and some more recently) based on donations of buses from the Ministry of Transport to the cities. These BRT systems were not well planned and designed and have stopped operating in many cities (e.g. Makassar) or operate with only a token fleet and frequency (e.g. Bandung and Pekanbaru). Semarang is unusual in that the BRT-lite system there is still operating at reasonable frequencies in stations which continue to be maintained and used. However, there is a clear recognition in Semarang that the low-capacity BRT-lite system needs to be upgraded. |
